THE SUMMER MARKET: AUG 4 – 7, 2024, JAVITS CENTER

NEW YORK, NY, August 20, 2014… Three Accent on Design® exhibitors received “Bloggers’ Choice Awards” today for exemplary product design at the summer 2014 edition of NY NOW®, the Market for Home + Lifestyle (formerly NYIGF®). Accent on Design, which is presented semi-annually as part of NY NOW’s HOME Collection, runs through Wednesday, August 20, at 2pm (ET) at at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

“Bloggers in the design space are intuitive and forward-thinking in the same way as Accent on Design exhibitors,” said Christian Falkenberg, NY NOW director and senior vice president. “Tapping into their intuition and style-centered tastes has helped us identify several stand-out designs showcased at the summer Market.”

Three bloggers from noted design and trend-watching sites each were invited to select one product, representing “urgent, odd and delightful design,” from among Accent on Design’s 150+ exhibitors. The products that the participants each identified as the “next big thing,” are:

Marisa Marcantonio, Stylebeat:
Stone Candle Sconce by Fort Standard (Brooklyn, NY)
. Its functional and beautiful. Fort Standard’s stone dandle sconce provides illuminating candlelight while adding sculptural allure. A removable candlestick insert turns the back into a candlestick giving the piece dual functionality.

Sevan Gatsby, Design-Calendar:
Islands and Coasts Quilts by Haptic Lab (Brooklyn, NY)
. It’s tactile, intricate and whimsical. It delights me to see a product that is focusing on traditional craft techniques while everything is speeding towards the hi-tech. These heirloom-quality quilts—both decorative and functional—invite us to slow down, sleep in, get comfortable, feel safe and even find our way around using the sense of touch.

Nancy Lazarus, UnBeige:
Jack Headphone Stand by ModProducts (New York, NY)
. It is the optimal storage and recharging spot for headphones and small mobile devices when it’s high time for a digital break. It’s made from polypropylene and rubber and is available in orange, yellow, white or gray, to fit the color schemes of any desk or night stand. All wires remain hidden with a cable pass through, leaving you with a clutter-free space. It’s designed by ModProducts, Brooklyn, NY. Jack will make its first stand in October this fall.
