THE SUMMER MARKET: AUG 4 – 7, 2024, JAVITS CENTER

WHITE PLAINS, NY, October 31, 2014… The winter 2015 edition of NY NOW®, The Market for Home + Lifestyle, to be held January 31-February 4, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, will host three “Only in New York” events, showcasing the cultural strength and vibrant nightlife of the Big Apple. Much-anticipated events include NY NOW’s popular “Night on Broadway,” Gift for Life’s annual industry fundraiser, and discounted museum admission during Market Week.

“NY NOW capitalizes on its location to deliver unparalleled after-hours opportunities to Market attendees,” said Randi Mohr, NY NOW co-director and vice president. “Our ‘Only in New York’ events are a great way to enjoy New York City’s cultural attractions and live entertainment, and to celebrate industry achievements.”

A perennial Market Week favorite, NY NOW’s winter 2015 “Night on Broadway” will feature specially-priced tickets to the Tuesday, February 3, performance of THE LAST SHIP. Set in the English seafaring town of Wallsend, this new musical composed by 16-time Grammy Award® winner Sting, is a portrait of a community so bound together by passion, faith and tradition, they’ll stop at nothing to preserve the only life they’ve ever known. The Broadway premiere features direction by two-time Tony Award® winner Joe Mantello (Wicked), a book by Tony Award® winner John Logan (Red) and Pulitzer Prize winner Brian Yorkey (Next to Normal), and choreography by Olivier Award winner Steven Hoggett (Once). Tickets, normally priced at $132, are specially priced at $99 before January 27, and $109 after January 27, for NY Market participants. More information is available at www.thelastship.com.

Gift For Life will toast outstanding industry achievements at its 23rd annual “Party for Life” fundraiser to be held at the Central Park Boathouse on Monday, February 2, from 6:30-10:00 p.m. Susan Feldman of One Kings Lane will be feted with the Norman Glassberg Trailblazer Award; Beatriz Ball, the founder of the eponymous metalware company, will receive the Bert Tonkin Gift Of Giving Award; and John Grob, the founder of J. Grob Associates will be presented with the Chuck Yancy Lifetime Achievement Award. Proceeds from tickets, priced at $125 each, benefit DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS, one of the largest funders of HIV/AIDS service and education programs in the U.S., and Gift For Life’s sole charity partner. More information is available online at www.giftforlife.org.

Winter 2015 NY Market participants also can enjoy half-price admission ($9) during Market Week (January 30-February 4) at the newly reopened Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, the only museum in the nation devoted exclusively to historic and contemporary design. Exhibitions on view include “Tools: Extending Our Reach,” which spans 1.85 million years of tool use and design, to explore how tools extend the human body and considers how some tools break into our lives as radical innovations, whereas many others have remained almost unchanged in form and function for centuries.
