WHITE PLAINS, NY, December 12, 2014… Covering a wide range of categories, an impressive new set of artisans and designers has been accepted into two juried sections – Accent on Design® and Handmade® Designer Maker – for the winter 2015 edition of NY NOW®, the Market for Home + Lifestyle, January 31-February 4, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
From 138 applicants for the winter 2015 edition of Accent on Design, 24 were recommended by the Accent on Design Selection Committee for participation. The newly accepted exhibitors offer a wide range of decorative accessories, personal accessories, handcrafted tabletop and even electronics. Now entering its third decade, Accent on Design is a juried showcase of some 150 contemporary and innovative product suppliers, highlighting established and emerging designs across all product categories. Accent on Design, which is presented as part of the NY NOW HOME Collection, runs Sunday, February 1, through Wednesday, February 4, on Level 3 of the Javits Center.
Of the 136 artisans who applied to Handmade Designer Maker, the jury accepted 28 for first-time participation in the winter 2015 Market. These newcomers showcase traditional jewelry, pottery and home décor products. Designer Maker, one of two sections that comprise NY NOW’s HANDMADE Collection, is a juried selection of approximately 350 artisans and their handcrafted designs across all media.

Special seminar programming is set to complement these juried showcases. As part of the HANDMADE track, Craft Retailers & Artists for Tomorrow (CRAFT) will host five daily “Power Hour” sessions focusing on different aspects of branding and marketing – Social Media to Match Your Vision & Goals; The Power Of Collaborative Marketing; Image Marketing: Your Brand Is Counting On You; Using Storytelling To Boost Your Brand & Your Business; and The When, Why and How of Content Marketing. In addition, free “Importing 101” sessions will be presented daily, from February 1-4, in connection with Artisan Resource®, which runs concurrently with NY NOW at the Javits Center. Additionally, for the first time, the “Made in USA” display will be curated by CRAFT (Craft Retailers & Artists for Tomorrow), showcasing the best in handcrafted and factory-produced American-made home and lifestyle products.
The NEW! Ideas track recognizes the nation’s growing “Maker Movement,” and offers two seminars related to NY NOW’s “Maker Project”: Susan Szenasy of METROPOLIS will moderate “Modern-Day Matchmaking Redux: Tech Tools For 21st Century Makers,” a look at how technology is fueling a growth in design and how ideas become products. Panelists include Matthew Burnett of Makers Row, Evan Cohen from IndieGoGo, Joanne Domeniconi of The Grommet and Abigail Keifer of Red Clay. In a second “Maker Project” session, Erin Andrew of the Small Business Administration, will present “Fostering Small Business Entrepreneurship In Today’s DIY Economy,” focusing on tools and programs available to small businesses creating and selling self-made products.
The winter 2015 edition of NY NOW®, the Market for Home +Lifestyle, will run Saturday, January 31, through Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. NY NOW has staggered show opening dates and locations, with HANDMADE running Saturday to Tuesday, and HOME and LIFESTYLE running Sunday to Wednesday. Market hours are 9am – 6pm, daily, except Tuesday, February 3, when HANDMADE closes at 5pm; and Wednesday, February 4, when HOME and LIFESTYLE close at 2pm.
